Terms & Conditions.

For the WWiSTEM × Rocketspark Website Design Competition · Last updated 13 July 2026

These terms apply to anyone entering the Waikato Women in STEM Website Design Competition. By registering, you agree to all of the below. Read carefully. If anything's unclear, email wwinstem@gmail.com with "Website Design Competition" in the subject line before you register.

The headline: If you win, ownership of the designed website transfers to Waikato Women in STEM. You keep the right to display your work in your personal portfolio with credit. Everything you submit must be your own original work or properly licensed for commercial use.

01 Eligibility

The competition is open to:

  • Anyone currently enrolled at the University of Waikato

  • Both individual entrants and teams

Each person or team may submit only one entry. If you're entering as part of a team, you cannot also enter solo or as part of another team. Entrants under 18 require parent or guardian consent.

02 How to enter

Entry is by registration on this site. Once registered, WWiSTEM and Rocketspark will provide each entrant (or team) with:

  • A blank Rocketspark trial site to design and build on

  • The full design brief and content pack

  • Brand assets including logos and brand colours

  • A unique submission link

The website must be designed on the Rocketspark platform. Entries built on any other platform will not be accepted.

03 Submitting your entry

An entry is only considered submitted when the entrant uses their unique submission link, completes the submission form, and confirms their entry. Sites that are built but not formally submitted by the deadline will not be judged. Once submitted, an entry is locked for judging.

04 Creative flexibility

If you take creative liberties and your design does not include every requirement listed in the brief, you may justify your decisions in your submission. The submission form includes a dedicated field for this. Alternatively, supporting explanations may be emailed as a Google Docs document to wwinstem@gmail.com.

Judges will consider these justifications, but the safest path is to meet all requirements.

05 Ownership and the winning entry

If your entry is selected as the winner:

  • You agree to transfer ownership of the designed website (including its design, layout, content, and assets) to Waikato Women in STEM

  • WWiSTEM may use, modify, publish, and continue to develop the work, in whole or in part, for any purpose related to the club

  • You retain the right to display the work in your personal portfolio, online or in print, with appropriate credit to WWiSTEM and the competition

  • You may also be featured on Waikato Women in STEM's social media platforms (LinkedIn and Instagram)

06 Original work and licensing

Every entrant warrants that everything in their submission is either:

  • Their own original work, created by them (or by their team) for this competition; or

  • Third-party content the entrant has the legal right to use for the purpose of this competition and any subsequent use of the work by WWiSTEM

Acceptable sources for third-party content include Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay (under their respective free-use licences), Google Fonts and other openly licensed font libraries, and any paid stock library where the entrant holds an appropriate commercial licence. Entrants must list any third-party assets used at the point of submission.

Entries containing material that infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights will be disqualified.

07 Confidentiality

Entrants will receive WWiSTEM brand assets, content, committee details, and other materials for the purpose of building their competition entry. These materials may not be used for any other purpose, shared publicly outside the entry, or provided to any third party.

08 Judging

Submitted entries will be judged by Waikato Women in STEM. Judging criteria are:

  • How well the website represents the club

  • Completion of all requirements

  • Professional presentation

  • Creativity and design quality

  • Ease of use and navigation

Submissions will be classified as either "Not Completed" (fails to meet key requirements), "Completed" (meets all requirements and is suitable for use as the WWiSTEM website, but not selected as the winner), or "Winner" (meets all requirements and is chosen by the committee as the best overall design). Only one winner will be selected. The committee's decision is final.

09 Prizes

The winner receives:

  • A prize valued at $100

  • Recognition and a certificate

  • A Client Recommendation Letter from Waikato Women in STEM

  • The winning website goes live as the official WWiSTEM website

All entrants who submit a completed entry receive:

  • Recognition and a certificate

  • A Client Recommendation Letter from Waikato Women in STEM

10 Use of personal information

Personal information collected during registration will be used only for managing the competition, communicating with entrants, and announcing winners. WWiSTEM and Rocketspark will not share entrant details with any other party without permission. Entrants may request deletion of their personal data at any time, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

11 Disqualification

WWiSTEM reserves the right to disqualify any entry that breaches these terms, contains offensive or unlawful content, infringes the rights of others, is built outside the provided Rocketspark trial environment, or violates the "one submission per person or team" rule.

12 Changes to these terms

WWiSTEM may update these terms before the competition closes. Material changes will be communicated to registered entrants by email. The version of the terms in effect at the time of submission applies to that submission.

13 Contact
